Frances Harding

Frances Harding works in the Office of Communications at Lakehead University.

As Editor of Publications she is responsible for Lakehead’s annual report, alumni magazine, faculty/ staff newsletter. She also manages a student writing program, SPARK- Lakehead, sponsored by The Chronicle-Journal. All of these publications can be found online at

In 2009 Frances will mark 20 years of service at Lakehead University. She began working in Distance Education in 1988 and, a year later, accepted a full-time position as Coordinator of Alumni Relations. Since 1994, she has been working with the Office of Communication, and is involved in media relations, strategic communications planning, and event planning and execution.

Over the years Frances has directed projects that have earned Lakehead University five Prix d’Excellence medals from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education – four for its Annual Reports and one for its 40 Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition program. She currently serves on Lakehead University’s Sustainability Committee.


Frances holds a BA (Political Science) from Carleton University in Ottawa and studied writing, editing, theatre, and visual art at Ryerson University, the Banff Centre, University of Toronto, and the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. For 10 years she served as a member of the Board of Directors of Magnus Theatre in Thunder Bay and took a leading role in the Magnus in the Park! Capital Campaign. She plays classical guitar and enjoys tennis, skiing, and swimming.
